Update April 18th

Hi,

Update on the planning of my Round Britain sailing trip this summer.
- first week of May 18th (wk21) has been more or less settled: Dennis and Jelte will join and we have practiced last weekend on the Waddenzee in various weather conditions
- I have now included a trip to the Isles of Scilly on England's south-west tip and will skip some of the west coast stops. This possibly means a longer overnight trip from Dale Bay/ Milford Haven straight to the Scilly Isles.

Update March 10th, 2025

Hi,

Update on the planning of my Round Britain sailing trip this summer.
Based on your feedback I have made a preliminary crew schedule per week, see attached.
The names in the schedule contain friends, family and ASML sailing colleagues.

Please inform me if you recognise the schedule or if you have any other comments,

 Hi,

Thank you for your response to my invitation two weeks ago to join me during the Round Britain sailing trip coming summer!

So far about ~20 people have responded through email and WhatsApp.
This is great, and I look forward meeting you and sailing with you!

Now it's time for a next step to further confirm and schedule your participation.

Again, be aware that the route and the various stops are variable and depend very much on the weather that is encountered during the trip. The week numbers in the draft route planning give an indication in which area we will likely be sailing at that time.
If you would like to participate in a period between half of May and end of August, you will therefore have to make a trip to a certain location in the UK (or even in Ireland) to get on board and also make a return trip back to the Netherlands from a different location.

Please let me know if you are still interested by sharing the time period you would be available, or if you are very flexible in time, which area or legs of the trip you would like to join.
Using your responses, I will create a more detailed route planning to be shared again with you.

Sailor's salute,
Jaap

All,

This year I am planning to sail around Britain with my sailing vessel ‘Legato’, a 42ft Southerly, and I am looking for crew to join me during short or longer parts of the journey.

The trip is expected to start in the second half of May and will take approximately 3 months. We will sail counterclockwise around the British Isles and the main destinations are England’s east coast, the Caledonian canal, the isles on the Scottish west coast, the Irish east coast or England’s west coast, around Land’s End and following the English south coast back through the Channel to the Netherlands.

Optional destinations and depending on weather conditions are the Orkney Isles and the Scilly Isles.

The trip will consist of about 50% sailing and 50% resting/ visiting/ sightseeing, again very much depending on the weather conditions. A preliminary schedule can be found below and is aimed at making day sails as much as possible.

Since the weather is the dominant factor for the trip planning and progress, the exact location for each week (number) can’t be predefined. This means that start and finish locations of the various legs will be flexible. Since sailing conditions can be challenging at times, I am looking preferably for ‘crew’ with some sailing experience and less for ‘passengers’. There will likely be opportunities in April and May 2025 to join me on some practice rounds on Legato in the Netherlands (IJsselmeer/ Waddenzee).

Please reach out to me if you are interested, so we can schedule a nice sailing voyage!

with a sailor’s salute,

Jaap Burghoorn
